Privacy Policy

Beckonly is a product of the Beckah ecosystem.

This is a plain-language summary of what Beckonly does with your data. We try to be honest about it; if anything below isn't clear, email us at safwan@beckah.org and we'll fix it.

What we collect

When you use Beckonly, we collect the data you give us directly and the data the app needs to function:

  • Account basics — name, email address, and (if your sign-in provider gives it) profile photo.
  • Profile details you fill in — gender (male or female; we don't collect a third option because the platform is single-gender by design), skill level, position, jersey number, bio, height, weight, and birthdate.
  • What you do in the app — games you create, RSVPs, captain picks, team assignments, and stat events (points scored, rebounds, assists, fouls) tied to a player ID.
  • Device data for sync — when you score a game, your device sends an idempotency token so the same play doesn't get counted twice across phones. We don't track your location or browsing.

We do not collect: precise location, contacts, microphone, camera, or anything you didn't explicitly type or tap.

Sign-in providers

You can sign in with Google, Facebook, or a one-time email magic link.

  • Google shares your name, email, and profile picture with us. Nothing else.
  • Facebook shares your name, email, and (if you grant it) profile picture. Nothing else.
  • Magic link uses only your email address.

We don't post anything to your social profiles. We don't read your friends list. We don't have those permissions.

How we use your data

  • To run the app: keep you signed in, show your profile, save your RSVPs and stats.
  • To show other players who you are: your name, profile photo, skill level, and stats are visible to other users of your gender on the platform (because that's the point — sports happen with people).
  • To send game-related notifications: confirmation nudges, "the game starts in an hour", waitlist promotions. You can turn these off in your profile.
  • That's it. We don't profile you, we don't sell your data, we don't run ads against it.

Who we share data with

We use a handful of vendors to make the app work. They process your data on our behalf and are contractually bound not to use it for anything else:

  • Supabase — our database, authentication, and realtime backend. Your profile and stats live here.
  • Vercel — our web hosting and CDN. Serves the pages and routes API calls.
  • Aladhan (planned) — prayer-time data so we can avoid scheduling games during prayer. We send a location (city or coordinates if you grant it later) and nothing personal.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with ad networks. We do not share it with anyone else unless legally compelled (subpoena, court order) — and if that happens, we'll tell you unless the order forbids it.

Cookies

We keep this simple: Beckonly uses only strictly necessary cookies — the ones the app can't work without. Specifically, a secure session cookie (via Supabase Auth) that keeps you logged in, and a cookie used during Google sign-in. That's it.

  • We do not use advertising, marketing, or cross-site tracking cookies.
  • We do not run third-party analytics that profile you.

Because these cookies are essential to providing a service you asked for (logging in), no cookie-consent banner is required — there's nothing optional to opt into. If we ever add analytics or any non-essential cookie, we'll update this policy and add a proper consent prompt first.

How long we keep it

  • While your account is active: as long as you keep using the app.
  • After you delete your account: your profile is removed within 30 days. Stats from completed games are retained in anonymized form (your name is removed, but the box score still exists so teammates' stats still make sense). If you want full erasure including the anonymized footprint, email us and we'll do it.

Deleting your account

Email safwan@beckah.org with the subject "delete my account" from the email you signed in with. We'll confirm and process it within 7 days. A self-serve delete button is on the roadmap.

Children's data

Beckonly is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If we learn we've collected such data, we will delete it. A full guardian-supervised youth flow (under-13 and 13–18 transition) is on our roadmap; until that ships, please don't sign up children under 13.

Your rights

You can:

  • See your data — most of it is on your profile page. Email us for anything else.
  • Correct your data — edit your profile, or email us.
  • Delete your data — see above.
  • Export your data — email us, we'll send it as JSON.

Changes to this policy

If we change anything material, we'll bump the "Last updated" date at the top and email you if the change affects how we use your data. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
